The city of Marrakesh, Morocco, is hosting the continuation of the 4 Safe 4 Life (SM4A4L) Program, an initiative by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) aimed at reducing road fatalities through education, technology, and effective public policies.

The event takes place from February 17 to 21, 2025, bringing together leaders, organizations, and experts from around the world to discuss strategies and present innovative solutions for safe mobility.

Key Topics Covered in the 4 Safe 4 Life Program

The event focuses on global strategies for road safety, with discussions ranging from transport infrastructure to the role of the private sector in safe mobility. Some of the key topics include:

1. Road Safety as a Global Goal

Reducing road fatalities is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (ODs), with the objective of halving traffic-related deaths by 2030. During the event, leaders discuss new approaches to achieving this goal, including government actions, educational programs, and awareness campaigns.

2. Private Sector Involvement in Road Safety

Companies such as Amazon, Honda, IKEA, and Total Energies participate in the event to showcase projects that integrate road safety into the private sector’s value chain. Collaboration between governments and businesses is crucial for investments in technology, safe infrastructure, and responsible driving campaigns.

3. Practical Case Studies and Innovations in Safe Mobility

Automobile clubs from different countries present practical examples of road safety policy implementation, highlighting initiatives that have successfully reduced accidents and improved traffic conditions in their regions.

4. Training and Capacity Building in Road Safety

The event also emphasizes the importance of education for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Training programs, certification processes, and enforcement measures are fundamental to ensuring that traffic rules are followed and that road users are aware of potential risks.

5. Safe Mobility in Africa and High-Risk Regions

Marrakesh was chosen as the event’s host city due to the challenges of road safety on the African continent. One of the program’s main focuses is the implementation of safe systems in countries with high accident rates, bringing experiences from other regions to promote effective solutions.

Brazil's Contribution to the 4 Safe 4 Life Program

During the event, the Brazilian representatives have the opportunity to:

  • Share local experiences and discuss how to adapt global best practices to Brazil’s reality;
  • Expand international partnerships to foster investments in infrastructure and road safety education;
  • Contribute to the development of new enforcement strategies and regulations to reduce accidents and save lives.

Conclusion

The continuation of the 4 Safe 4 Life Program in Marrakesh reinforces the importance of international cooperation for road safety. Discussions, case studies, and collaborations between countries are essential in working towards the goal of reducing road fatalities and creating safer, more sustainable cities.
