ACBr Establishes Partnership to Implement Mobility Plan in Brazil
2 min readThe partnership between the Brazilian Automobile Club (ACBr), a member of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the National Institute of Projects for Traffic and Safety (INPROTRAN), YellotMob Electric Mobility and Sustainable Energies, SPS Enterprises and Participation, has resulted in the presentation of a global plan to develop countries in the areas of mobility, road safety, and education. The project is expected to be approved by a special UN commission by the end of November.
If the application is approved, the group will be able to develop the plan in Brazil for a period of up to five years. The initiative aims to implement various educational programs for traffic awareness, training and capacity building of authorities and community leaders, actions for the development of smart cities, accident prevention campaigns, among others. The proposal also seeks to develop a national report on mobility and road safety.
According to Humberto Kennedy, vice president of ACBr, Brazil has a favorable environment to receive and support actions of the strategic plan as it already has a positive history in the execution of FIA and UN projects. The country is capable of absorbing the projects on the agenda and achieving lasting social dimensions and results in various segments. “From the actions developed, Brazil can build a legacy regarding urban mobility and improvement of accessibility,” explains Humberto.
SPS executive Stenio Pereira, designated for fundraising and project management alongside ACBr, explains that the alliance seeks maximum political support and that the group has already presented the plan to authorities in the State of Goiás, during a workshop in Aparecida de Goiânia. “The project will provide support to national, state, and municipal governments towards the country we desire: more conscious, with more road safety and, consequently, with lower indicators of deaths and traffic accidents.”
Over its trajectory, the Brazilian Automobile Club has established itself as a reference entity in mobility and road safety in Brazil. Its actions, guided by transparent, ethical, and responsible practices, demonstrate the solidity and integrity necessary for any organization that aims to represent global-scale institutions, such as the International Automobile Federation (FIA), in UN/UNITAR supported projects.
In addition to forming alliances with public and private entities, non-governmental and government agencies, ACBr maintains ongoing dialogue and partnerships with representatives of Brazilian governments to advise on the execution of various mobility issues and reduction of deaths and injuries in traffic. The club aims to ensure that the actions and projects conducted in the country are aligned with the real needs of Brazilian traffic and with the current public policies in defense of life, through safer traffic.
