Solar charging station can charge up to 12 electric bikes at once

THE BeamGlobal has launched its first solar bike charging station. The company’s charging points in San Diego, United States, have capacity for up to 12 bicycles in external locations. In addition to reducing the chances of accidents and battery fires indoors, portable stations work without the need for electrical wires.
Between 2021 and 2023, New York recorded 23 deaths caused by battery explosions used in electric vehicles. In 2022, 98 fires occurred in the country. This year, a new case went viral on social media, in which a lithium battery exploded inside an elevator, reigniting the debate about the safety of batteries present in electric vehicles.
The seasons BeamBike They have a 4.4 kilowatt solar panel, measuring 6.3 meters by 3.3 meters. The charging points also have batteries with storage of 20, 30 or 40 kWh. The company is popular in the United States for creating solar charging stations for cars. Just like the model for electric cars, the version for bicycles is covered against intense weather conditions.
“Repeated requests from some of our best customers and the rare but notorious tragedies of indoor fires caused by e-bikes inspired us to develop an outdoor e-bike charging solution that can be quickly deployed, relocated when necessary and operated independently of the grid,” said Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Beam Global.
How do charging stations work?
Portable chargers have bike locks, allowing cyclists to carry out other activities around the charging points, such as shopping, working or studying. The 12 charging points also have 120 Volt sockets. The company did not reveal the average full recharge time for the most common electric bicycle models.
According to the company, the portable product can charge electric models to any region, including places with few electricity points. The company, however, has not yet revealed the value of the product or the average price for using the stations. According to Beam Global, the solution offers a station for any type of enterprise and can also be for public use.
