In recent years, Harley-Davidson has created the “Icons“, which is inspired by models from the past to create current motorcycles with a classic design. For 2024, Harley was inspired by the universe of Jeff Nichols’ new film, “The Bikeriders” for its latest release: the Hydra Glide Revival.

“Clube dos Vândalos”, which premieres on June 20 in Brazil, tells the story of a motorcycle club in the American Midwest. In the film, its founder and leader, Johnny (Tom Hardy), rides a 1956 Harley-Davidson FLH that inspired the 2024 limited edition Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide Revival.

Tom Hardy’s character represents the typical ex-combatant of the Second World War who, like many others, creates a motorcycle club to get together with friends, ride a motorcycle and have fun. The 1950s are considered the golden age of motorcycle clubs, with several appearing throughout the United States.

However, it was also at this time that motorcycle clubs began to make the news, due to the confusion they were involved in. Later, they reached cinema screens and the imagination of young people around the world. After all, in 1953, the legendary “The Wild One” premiered, directed by László Benedek and starring Marlon Brando. The film practically created the image of the “evil biker”, as an outlaw, although this does not portray reality today.

The film written and directed by Nichols also recreates this era with all the fights, tensions and dilemmas of motorcycle clubs. The inspiration for the film came from the famous photo book “The Bikeriders”, by Danny Lyon, originally published in 1968. The script tells the story of the Outlaws motorcycle club, in Chicago, based on photos and interviews taken by Lyon. In addition to Tom Hardy, Austin Bulter (star of “Elvis”) and Jodie Comer (from “Killing Eve”) star in the film.

Leaving behind the utilitarianism of wartime, Harley-Davidson entered the 1950s with a 74 cubic inch (1,212 cm³) Panhead engine, a hydraulic telescopic front fork (Hydra-Glide) and new colors that brought new life to the American manufacturer. .

One of the most famous models was the 1956 FLH, which featured a red base color with a white stripe, known as a two-tone “slash” color scheme. After visiting the film set and reading the script, Harley’s creative director- Davidson, Brad Richards, decided to sketch a motorcycle with the same paint scheme as Johnny’s bike, the character played by Tom Brady who rides an FLH in the film. The draft became the Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide 2024 Revival.

Despite the classic paintwork, the new Harley uses the modern Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine (1,868 cc) and the Softail chassis. The mechanical base, in fact, comes from the Heritage Classic, as do its leather side cases and the removable windshield.

Limited to 1,750 units, Harley’s new “classic” model, however, is not expected to come to Brazil. The film that inspired Hydra-Glide Revival, Clube dos Vândalos, had its premiere confirmed for June 20th in Brazilian cinemas and received a new trailer in Portuguese. Watch below.
