The city of São Paulo will open its doors, once again, to Formula E this Saturday, March 16th. This time, the main category of electric motorsport will be at the Sambódromo Anhembi.

O ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will be held both inside and around the iconic sambadrome. In addition to races with electric vehicles that reach 320 km/h, the event will also feature the presence of a flying car.

A Gohobby, a drone distribution company in Brazil and Latin America, will be present at the São Paulo stage of the Formula E World Championship. Therefore, it will take the manufacturer’s eVTOL 216-S to the Fan Village, a space dedicated to fans, of the E-prix Chinese EHang.

The electric “flying car” can be enjoyed by the public, who can also take a photo with the new product. “Gohobby is excited to participate in the E-prix event, bringing with it EHang’s eVTOL. This is an opportunity to take the future of passenger and cargo air transport in Brazil to a place that I have a lot of appreciation and affection for, after my 7 years dedicated to professional motorsport. Presence at the event represents not only a historic milestone, but also a chance to highlight the next era of air mobility in the country”, says Adriano Buzaid, CEO of Gohobby and former British Formula 3 driver.

How the flying car works

According to Gohobby, the eVTOL 216-S transports up to two people and a carry-on bag. Thus, the total payload is 220 kg over a range of 30 km.

Additionally, the vehicle operates with 12 independent batteries and 16 motors. The pilot does not fly inside the aircraft, as the eVTOL is piloted remotely and automatically. With EHang’s intelligent command and control system, the pilot can plan, command, validate, execute, monitor and take control of the flight, in real time, from the ground.

Also according to Gohobby, EHang develops Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems that transport passengers. It is also the only eVTOL manufacturer in the world to obtain standard certification (“AC”), which authorizes automated flights with passengers and without a pilot on board. Additionally, it meets safety and quality requirements for commercial operations.

How to visit Formula E

The Formula E World Championship is the first certified global sport with a net footprint of zero carbon. The electric car category has 22 drivers and 11 teams and is in its 10th season.

In turn, the São Paulo stage is the fourth of the 2024 season. Tickets for the São Paulo 2024 E-Prix are available on the São Paulo website Eleven Tickets.

On March 16th, the public will be able to watch all the car sessions on the track live: Free Practice, Qualifying Practice and Race. In addition, you will have access to all the action at the Allianz Fan Village – the immersive Formula E festival. Finally, there is also the Fan Store, Gaming Arena with simulators, children’s area, live music, food court and activation with the Formula E partner brands.

This is the second São Paulo E-Prix. On the occasion, São Paulo native and former category champion Lucas di Grassi will be joined by Sergio Sette Camara from Minas Gerais on the track. Two other Brazilians also star in the category inside the pits: engineer Lais Campelo from Jaguar TCR Racing and the manager of the NIO team, Roberto Costa.
